The Intake Session: Your initial session.
Your first meeting with me is very important. This is the time where we will discuss and establish a few basic, but essential guidelines for our sessions. These guidelines are in place so that you can get the most out of Life Coaching and are as follows:
- Trust -
You will have to trust me and be able share your thoughts, beliefs, fears and ideas. - Honesty -
You will have to be honest with me and yourself about experiencing any difficulties throughout the coaching sessions. - Openness -
You will have to be open and willing to bring everything you want to discuss to the coaching sessions.
Also in this initial session we will discuss:
How long each session will last - Sessions typically last between 30 - 60 minutes and will commence once a week or fortnightly. We will establish how much time is needed for you to work on your goal/action before the next session. By the end of this intake session you will decide how long you feel you will need coaching. The initial session will take on average more than an hour.
Charging and payment policy - This is based on the frequency and duration of the sessions. We will discuss this and come to an agreement on how long/how many sessions you will have, when the sessions will end, and how much the cost will be. Payment is due after this initial intake session and before further sessions.
Being late for or missing a session - At this intake session, you will be informed that if you are late for a session it will end on time regardless of when it started. Also if you do not appear for the session you will still be charged the fee for that hour. I will encourage you to keep your appointments so that you will get good value from your sessions. There are no refunds due to lateness or missing appointments.
Why you are here for coaching - When getting to know each other we need to spend time building a sense of mutual trust as I want to encourage you to talk and share information. My goal is to make you feel 100% safe and secure in the coaching relationship.
What coaching's about - It is confidential, non-judgmental and non-critical. There are no successes or failures in coaching there is only the result of an action. It is only this result that matters.
How a session is broken down: A session is broken down into 6 parts and are as follows:
- Reviewing previous actions
- Setting goals for the session
- Looking at where you are now
- Exploring possible options
- Agreeing actions
- Summarizing what has been agreed upon
I may interrupt from time to time during a session, including the initial intake session, if I feel you are losing track of the goal.
The contact sheet and history sheet: If you are still willing to work with me, we will then complete your history sheet. This will help me find out about your goals and attitudes towards life. The more information I have the more effectively I will be able to work with you. This will help me to pinpoint areas of dissatisfaction and concern in your life. These can be broken down into 4 sections, which are:
- Tolerances - What are you putting up with at the moment
- The "shoulds" - What do you think you should be doing
- Frustrations - What things are frustrating about yourself, your life, work etc.
- Desires - What do you really want in your professional or personal life.
The intake session is very important because it will cover the coaching contract in detail and allow you to ask any questions or to talk about any concerns that you might have. It will also help us to build rapport and trust. In this process I will help guide you in order to help you find the answers within yourself.
I hope we can work together towards your goals soon!
